The Double Take is a double-barreled semi-automatic DMR (designated marksman rifle) introduced in Titanfall 2.

History[]

The Double Take was manufactured by Burrell Defense some time after the Battle of Demeter. It was the first designated marksman rifle that used a spreadshot. Due to its spreadshot, this made it much easier to track targets at a distance and reduced the need to pre-aim a target, combined with its very fast blue tracers that travelled quickly. It also was popular due to its versatility as the spreadshot also made hitting targets up close easier.

After the events of Titanfall 2, Burrell Defense phased out the Double Take in favor of a new triple-barreled marksman that would see usage in the Apex Games[1].

Design and performance[]

The Double Take is a twin-barrel marksman rifle. The shots are fired side by side, and the default sights have two chevrons, indicating where the shots will land. This is contrary to the Longbow and Kraber which do not come with iron sights. It also comes with a bullpup magazine in the back of the weapon.

While canonically, it does fire two shots, this is contradicted in game as there appears to be a third shot.

It is a jack of trades but master of none when it comes to sniper rifles, as it sits between the heavy hitting Kraber and the fast-firing DMR stats-wise. This means that players who want more options in regard to their playstyle with sniper rifles can rely on the Double Take for results.

Field notes[]

  • As with other sniper rifles, carry a fast-firing sidearm like the RE-45 to help make up for your slow-firing primary weapon.
  • Feel free to move around more with this weapon, as its spread reduces the need for precision and lets you hit some close range shots.

Strengths[]

  • default iron sights allow for more vision than other Snipers
  • Easiest sniper rifle to hit shots with
  • fast projectiles
  • spread allows for more versatility than other snipers

Weaknesses[]

  • inconsistent damage at range
  • burns through ammo quickly
  • Blue tracers give away your position

Titanfall 2[]

The Double Take appears in Titanfall 2 as a twin-barrel Sniper Rifle with high range and powerful but fast shots.

Trivia[]

  • Uniquely, the D-2 has it's own custom sights unlike the Kraber and the DMR. If a player attaches a different optic, the scope is placed in front of the D-2's stock sights instead of replacing them entirely.
  • The D-2 one of the starting weapons in the Titanfall 2 mission The Ark. It has a unique Variable Zoom that simply enhances magnification of this optic, as opposed to the scope available for multiplayer usage.
  • The word "Hypers" can be seen on the weapon, possibly a reference to Ranon Sarono, one Titanfall 2's animators, who has a youtube channel called "Hyper". It is on this channel that Sarono has uploaded an animation reel for Titanfall 2's weapons, including the Double Take.
  • The D-2 actually fires 3 projectiles per shot instead of 2, 2 visible shots and 1 invisible shot in the middle[2]
  • Visually, the D-2 appears to based on a heavily modified version of the Alternator platform, possessing the same magazine, trigger, and twin barrels, with overhauls to the stock, magazine feed, and rail. This might be that perhaps Burrell Defense's idea was stolen by Emslie Tactical, or vise versa.
