Tactical Abilities are functions distributed between Pilots and Titans to provide an edge on the battlefield. Tactical Abilities are temporary and only last a few seconds. Once used, they have a cool-down timer before they can be used again. Pilot abilities are geared towards offence while Titan abilities are geared towards defense.

Pilot Abilities[]

Titanfall[]

In Titanfall, Pilots can choose between 3 different tactical abilities: Cloak, Stim, & Active Radar Pulse.

  • Cloak allows the Pilot to become partially invisible to other Pilots and fully invisible to Titans in order to allow them to avoid detection or evade enemies
  • Stim grants Pilots a temporary boost in speed and health regeneration. There is a minor visual distortion around the edge of the screen.
  • Active Radar Pulse allows the Pilot to detect enemies and allies (Grunt, Spectre, Pilot, or Titan) through walls or other solid objects. Enemies are red and allies are blue. 

Titanfall 2[]

In Titanfall 2, There are 7 tactical abilities, With Cloak & Stim returning and Active Radar Pulse being reworked into Pulse Blade. The full list of abilities in Titanfall 2 are: Cloak, Pulse Blade, Grapple, Stim, A-Wall, Phase Shift, & Holo Pilot.

  • Cloak allows the Pilot to become partially invisible to other Pilots and fully invisible to Titans in order to allow them to avoid detection or evade enemies
  • Stim grants Pilots a temporary boost in speed and health regeneration. There is a minor visual distortion around the edge of the screen.
  • Grapple is can be used for getting to hard to reach places quickly. It can also be used to pull enemies closer.
  • A-Wall will throw out a orange particle wall that rejects incoming shots from any weapon. It also amps outgoing shots to deal more damage.
  • Phase Shift allows the pilot to become invulnerable and invisible for 2 seconds at a time by entering an alternate dimension.
  • Pulse Blade can be thrown at an enemy and also provides a brief sonar pulse that can detect enemies even through walls. It will kill Pilots & Minions instantly.
  • Holo Pilot deploys a hologram that mimics its Pilots last move, deceiving enemies into believing it is a real enemy.

Titan Abilities[]

Titanfall[]

Titans also possess three tactical abilities. Vortex Shield, Electric Smoke, and Particle Wall.

  • Vortex Shield is a shield that is generated from the Titan's hand and "catches" incoming projectiles. Caught projectiles are suspended within the shield until the shield's duration ends or the user lets go at which point the projectiles are launched at what the user is aiming at.
  • Electric Smoke has the Titan release a cloud of white smoke that carries an electric current. The smoke both obscures sight but also damages any enemies within the cloud.
  • Particle Wall is a shield wall that protects from all incoming enemy fire while still allowing the user and allies to fire through it.

Titanfall 2[]

In Titanfall 2 Tacticals have been split into 2 abilities, Titan Tacticals, & Defensive Abilities. And all tacticals are directly tied to each Titan. Electric Smoke has also now been made an innate ability of all multiplayer Titans. Overall there are 7 Titan Tacticals in Titanfall 2.

  • Tripwire is a trio of laser triggered explosive mines. Any enemy that trips the laser between the mines will set off all three.
  • Sonar Lock will fire a projectile that will release a orange pulse on impact that reveals enemies and establishes a partial lock, enemies that are detected are highlighted with orange for a limited time for all friendly players to see.
  • VTOL Hover allows the user to hover for a short time, enabling them to see over buildings for sniping and scouting purposes.
  • Phase Dash dashes the Titan forward and gives them partial invisibility & makes them invulnerable, It also allows them to move through anything except map geometry.
  • Mode Switch switches Legion's Predator Cannon between Long-Range, & Short-Range firing modes.
  • Incendiary Trap deploys a gas canister that deploys a flammable green gas over the surrounding area. This gas can then be triggered by incendiary attacks such as the T-203 Thermite Launcher and Firewall.
  • Rearm when activated will replenish the player's Energy Siphon, Rocket Salvo (Or Multi-Target Missile System) and Dashes. This process is not instantaneous, as it takes around 1 second to fully complete.
